Indie Taiwanese developer Lilien Games has stated they will release a new trailer and updated demo for their courtroom murder-mystery game The Real Face of a VTuber during this month's Steam NextFest.
In The Real Face of a VTuber, the CEO of Lilien Entertainment—agency behind popular VTuber Kuripa—has been murdered, with its six employees named as the only possible suspects. In a bizarre twist, three of them claim to be Kuripa's real face, each swearing they were home streaming on the night of the murder. As prosecutor Justin Truth, players must question witnesses, gather evidence, and get to the bottom of this mystery once and for all!
Players will immerse themselves in the world of VTubing by digging through social media for clues, chatting with Kuripa's fans (and haters), and even sending Super Chats during a live stream. Developer Jim explained: "The world of VTubers lends itself well to a murder mystery, since they have to keep their identities a secret, and there are a lot of potential conflicts with their agencies. We think this let us create a really exciting story about VTubers that people haven't seen before." Jim went on to say that while the game does explore Kuripa's identity, he doesn't condone doxxing VTubers in real life, saying VTubers have a right to their privacy!
For Steam's NextFest, The Real Face of a VTuber's demo has been updated with a tutorial, unique theme songs for each character, and a fast-forward function. There will also be a "guess the killer" survey—fill it out and you could win a download code for the full game!
The Real Face of a VTuber is slated to release in Q4 2025 on Steam, with support for English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
